Fling Reunion

We went down to Toledo Bend the second weekend of June for the Fling Reunion. Hannah and Nathan went down a few days early to meet Nan and we got there around lunch on Saturday.

Nathan had some good fortune in the kids fishing contest and won 3rd place.  He got a trophy and a fishing rod!

The kids loved swimming in the lake with their cousins

We went tubing and I had some great pictures of the kids on my phone. After Hannah finished, it was Nathan’s turn.  Right when I was putting him in the tube he decided that he didn’t want to go after all, so he started flailing around and fell out of the tube. I reached down to get him out of the water and my phone fell out of my shirt pocket and went directly to the bottom of the lake.  I ended up getting a new one on the way home.

Henry liked the porch and getting his own waters out of the coolers

Saturday evening they had karoake for the kids.

The next morning we did a little bit of fishing. Nathan caught another one

We had the business meeting and devotional, then had a big lunch and adjourned. I headed back home while Jennifer took the kids down to Evadale to visit.  As always we had a great time and can’t wait for next year!

Fossil Rim

We got up early on Memorial Day and drove down to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose.  We had never been there before and it did not disappoint.  Since it was a holiday weekend, we wanted to get there early, so we arrived about 15 minutes before the park opened.  There were a few other cars in the parking lot but we didn’t have to wait much in the park.  It was a really beautiful property and we saw a big variety of animals including exotic deer and antelope, ostriches, zebras, giraffes, and cheetahs.

The kids loved feeding the animals

Henry called everything a bear.  “More bear, more bear”

Some of the deer were almost too comfortable with people

We stopped at the gift shop half way and let the kids pick a toy. They had a good selection and everyone was able to find something for less than $5. After Fossil Rim, we went back through Glen Rose with plans on a picnic at Big Rocks park, but we found it was under water from the river.

Luckily there was another park around the corner that had some historic homes. The kids liked checking out the one room school house

It was a nice trip and a good way to finish the holiday weekend.

Botanic Gardens

Jennifer took the kids to visit the Botanic Gardens in May before the weather got too hot. Hannah had field day at school and had an early release.  They picked her up at school and then grabbed some chik-fil-a and had a picnic. The kids had a blast.

Nathan had to get the map figured out

They love this log

Afterwards they went around the corner for a DQ treat!

Pretty fun!

Sno Cones

Jennifer took the kids to get their first sno cone of summer and start it off right! They’ve had several since then.

Nathan Pre-School Wrap Up

Well, Nathan finished pre-school and is heading to kindergarten.  He had a really great year learning a lot and playing with his friends.  His teachers loved him.  Towards the end of the year, they had a Muffins with Mom event.

We were able to get a picture on the last day of school with his teachers

Nathan boy is growing up fast. We can’t wait to see him excel in Kindergarten.  And Henry starts at the same pre-school for one day a week in the fall!

Hannah turns 7!

Hannah turned 7 in May.  To celebrate her actual birthday, we made her favorite breakfast.  You can’t tell by the look on her face ;) She’s not exactly a morning person.

Then she got to open her presents.  The biggest hit was the Star Wars DVD set.

She also got her first necklace from us to wear to church.

And a new backpack and lunchbox for school next year

I had lunch with her that day at school (Sonic) and then we had her favorite meal for dinner (pea pasta).

Jennifer also took her to get her nails done at a nail salon for the first time. This was quite the treat!

In the past year, Hannah has continued to be a really strong student at school.  She loves to read and we can’t really keep enough books in the house to keep her satisfied.  She likes to play barbies, american girl dolls, animal figurines with Nathan, any type of craft, coloring, dress up, jumping on the trampoline, sidewalk chalk, swimming, dancing, singing, and riding her bike.

She has been doing gymnastics this year and really loves it.  She also started piano lessons this summer and has been doing great.

She has started to develop a bond with our pets and will play with them by herself throughout the day. Broady always wants to go in her room when there’s a bad storm and she thinks that is pretty special.

She also likes carrying a purse around everywhere with all sorts of things stuffed in it.

Jennifer says at the grocery store she pushes around the little kid carts and “talks” on her cell phone (one of my old phones from college). She loves to act like an adult whenever possible.

She still has a flair for drama and being sassy but we are doing our best to keep it in check.  She has a very generous heart and will give pretty much any toy away to her friends that come to visit.  She is starting to help some with chores (occasionally she will “clean” the kitchen if we ask).  She also helps a lot with Henry.

We can’t believe our little girl is already 7 and going into 2nd grade.  We are so proud of her and excited to see what the next year has in store. We love you Hannah!
