Sprint Triathlon

In late spring, my friend and I started toying with the idea of running in a sprint triathlon. We both had wanted to do one for a while but between pregnancies and breastfeeding neither of us had the opportunity! She finally convinced me to get a membership to our local YMCA and the training began. Looking back, this was the main reason I survived all the showings of our house this summer. We pretty much went to the Y everyday, which worked out perfectly since I needed to work-out anyway. The race was a 300 meter swim, 16 mile bike ride, and 3.1 mile run (in that order).

About to jump in the pool.

Running from the pool to the transition area (See my cheering squad behind me? A big thanks to family for coming in to watch me race. I felt like I was in high-school again…it was great).

I wish you could have seen me cross the finish line. I was so excited I threw my hands up over my head (picture Rocky) and let out a big, “YES!!” The workers were like, “Here’s your water and medal…next.” It was pretty anti-climatic after all that hard work.

I had lots of fun training and competing in this race. It felt good to have a goal and work hard to achieve it (which in my case was to just cross the finish line without stopping or passing out).

King and Queen Hubley

Some of our neighbors gave us a box of dress-up clothes and we’ve had lots of fun with them. Hannah put this on and announced, “Stand back! Here comes the Queen!”

Nathan didn’t care too much for his outfit. Here is how his dress-up progressed:

At least we have a Queen.

Slide

Nathan always goes down feet first on a slide, but this is how he comes out…

Summer Wrap-Up

Well, things are cooling down in Texas a bit and although it’s still in the 90’s, you can (kind of) tell that fall is on the way! So I thought I better post some of the things we did to beat the heat this summer. Since our house was on the market all summer, we had to leave the house a lot (like 84 showings a lot)! Can you believe that! I don’t know how we did it, but looking back it wasn’t that bad. Wait..that’s a lie…it was bad. I had a few break downs and was down right ugly to my husband more than I’d like to admit, but in the end we sold the house and it was all worth it…

The time we did spend at the house we tried our best to enjoy!

We made lots of messes outside…

playing with moon dough

and sliding with shaving cream.

And some messes inside...

cooking yummy blueberry muffins

and playing dress up.

We took a trip across the street to visit the little fire station near our house.

and visited the zoo and museum several times.

We had fun summer….but bring on the fall!

Purple Fridays at Chik-Fil-A

In Fort Worth, the Chik-Fil-A has Purple Fridays the day before a TCU home football game.  Anyone who comes in wearing purple gets a free sandwich or 8 count nuggets.  Jennifer stopped in at lunch.  It was such a good deal, we decided to go back for dinner.  Jennifer and Hannah were just about to leave when we decided those two alone would not generate enough free food.  Nathan needed to go also.  The only problem is that Nathan doesn’t have any purple clothes (he has plenty of maroon). So this is what we came up with.

Adult Nathan:  please forgive us.  If its any consolation, you enjoyed your chicken nuggets.
