Raleigh, NC

In early November, I had a work trip to Raleigh so Jennifer came along, and we made a long weekend of it.  The weather was nice, and it was the perfect time for the fall colors.  We had some good NC pork BBQ and southern food while we were there.  Our favorite place we ate was a chicken and waffles place named Beasleys.  The collard greens were pretty amazing…..

The highlight of our trip was a visit to Duke.  I have always been a Duke basketball fan, and even thought about going to school there, so watching a game at Cameron Indoor was on my bucket list.  I bought tickets to their season opener on Craigslist, so we went over for the afternoon.  We visited the gardens and the chapel and walked around campus some before the game.  The campus was gorgeous, especially at that time of year.

I took Jennifer on the scenic way back to the car, so we had to stop for a rest.  It turns out being pregnant with your 3rd child really takes it out of you. The gardens were very impressive, so we didn’t mind taking our time.

After the tour, we headed over to Cameron Indoor. The students were there hours before the game having a party complete with beer, pizza, and a DJ.  It was a pretty fun scene.

We honestly couldn’t tell which building was Cameron Indoor.  It was pretty small and looked like all the other buildings on campus.

The stadium is very charming….small and cozy, wood trim everywhere, snack bars like you would see at a high school.  Just a neat atmosphere.  We thought it was small from the outside, but it was really small once you got inside.  Notice the students are packed in their section and going crazy, over an hour before tipoff.

While we were having fun in Raleigh, the kids were in Evadale and Devers.  They had lots of fun with Mimi and O. They got to ride animals at a local circus…

They also had fun playing around the house.

It was a nice weekend away but we were glad to get home and see the kids.

Baby Hubley #3

For those who haven’t heard, we are 20 weeks pregnant, and it’s a BOY!!!

He is due on April 24th, but we don’t have a name yet.  Hannah and Nathan are very excited, and we are hopeful that we can just survive with another layer of chaos in our house.

Hannah really wanted it to be a girl, and Nathan really wanted it to be a boy.  Here is how we told them:

I was a little sad for Hannah, but she finally got over it. She told me that when the baby was little she would help me, but when he grew up she was NOT going to play with him. I think she’ll come around:)

Halloween 2013

As always, Halloween was a big deal this year.  Nan brought Sam and Betsy up the weekend before, and we went to Boo at the Zoo.  Here is our candy crew ready to go.

Boo at the Zoo was fun.  We saw lots of animals first before we went to the candy stops.  The kids all liked the “little gym.”

Later that week we did our real trick-or-treating in the neighborhood.  There were lots of people out, and it was fun.  Here are our superheroes.

Nathan took it pretty seriously.  We would pull up to a house, and he would hop out of the wagon and sprint to the front door to collect his candy. 

He was basically a blur all night.

Of course when we got home we had to compare our loot with our neighbors.

Happy Halloween!

Lion King

Nana, Pappy, and Mama Jo bought us tickets to see the Lion King Musical at Fair Park in October.  They bought the tickets during the summer and the kids talked about it for months.  It was a great show and the we had so much fun.

Every year Scott’s company hosts a picnic and makes it lots of fun for the kids. This year was no exception.

Friday Night Lights

So in our new little town football is big...really big. Our high school is ranked #1 in 4A schools and they are about to play in the quarter finals. They beat everyone by at least 50 points (normally it’s more like 70 points). It’s ridiculous.

We decided to go to Homecoming and it was packed. People have season tickets and tailgate at these games! I thought you only did that in college! We were told to get there early to get a good seat and although we showed up almost thirty minutes early, we still ended up behind the band. (The empty space behind us filled up quickly).

It was lots of fun though. We saw people we knew and it made me glad that we moved out. The kids had such a great time.

Nathan sat and watched the game very intently.

Hannah wasn’t that interested in the game, but loved the girls in the fancy dresses during halftime (ie the homecoming court)

Nathan kept asking to go watch the Bearcats again, so Scott took him to a playoff game where he got up close and personal with the mascot. He’s normally not a fan of costumes, but he was brave for this picture.
