Rolling Over

So Hannah has learned to roll over the whole way. Way to go Hannah!! She learned to roll over to her side a while ago, so don't take Jennifer pulling her onto her side as cheating, we were just trying to expedite the process while we had the camcorder out. I took about 9 min of film, which I cut down to 2 min for your viewing pleasure--most of the 2 min is her trying unsuccessfully. We just wanted you to be able to appreciate her determination. Enjoy!!

Coupon Clipping

So, now that the Hubley's are running on one income, I have started clipping (and printing coupons). I am not that good at finding coupons and matching them up with sales and manufacturer's coupons to get a really good discount, but I know women who are great at it. They actually make it a game, but who has the time?

Well, yesterday I was watching our local news and they have a segment called Penny Pinching. This lady, Amy, comes on and tells about all the good deals going on around town. She has a blog with all the information, so I decided to take a look and try it this time. I wanted to start small so I wouldn't get overwhelmed, so I only picked a few items that we needed from Target. I printed off the coupons and was really excited to go find my deals.

So this morning, Hannah and I set off. You should have seen us. I was pushing her stroller in one hand, holding a latte in the other (which I had a gift certificate for), and coupons were coming out of my pockets. I was running up and down the aisle so excited. It was like I was on that grocery store game show (I can't remember the name of it), where you run all around the store throwing stuff in your cart. It was actually lots of fun.

But the best part was when I got to the check-out line, and I proudly handed the cashier my fist full of coupons. I think I might have actually been giggling. I bought $12.00 worth of items for....drumroll......$2.42 (your welcome, Hubby)!!

WOW!!! I must say I had a rush of energy leaving the store with all my good deals (although it could have been the latte). This could be addictive!!

Craft Time

Move over Martha Stewart, craft time has officially begun in the Hubley house (for now)!!

While Hannah takes her naps, I have started doing something that I really enjoy....sewing! When I was a little girl, I would go over to Mrs. Gattis' house, and we would sew and craft all afternoon. I can remember sitting at her sewing machine with her by my side guiding my hand. It was here that my love for making things began. I was never really that great, but I enjoyed doing it. Mrs. Gattis was such a special lady, and I'm so grateful that she took the time to teach me what she knew.

Unfortunately, as I grew older I never had the time (or made the time) to continue sewing. My mom bought me a sewing machine a couple of Christmases ago and it has just been sitting in my closet....until now!

I have been inspired by other women who instead of wasting away their free time, use it to be creative and productive (I put some of the links to their blogs on our homepage if you are interested in checking them out). I found this adorable and easy baby bib pattern on Homemade by Jill. I figured I would start out with something small to build my confidence.

I started by cutting out two pieces of fabric for the front and back. Jill recommended terrycloth for the back, so you can use it as a washcloth too (great idea).

Next, I pinned the two pieces and sewed them together.

This is the finished product after turning it right side out, top-stitching the front, and attaching the velcro to the top.

Such an easy project, and such a cute bib...I can't wait to make more!! She has another pattern for burp cloths that I am going to try next. I will show pictures when I'm done.

Bedtime Routine

We have really been trying to establish a consistent bedtime routine for Hannah. We are hoping it will help her continue to be a good sleeper. It normally starts around 8pm when Hannah gets to eat dinner. Next is a bath which she really likes, especially since she learned to splash. (click on the images to see a larger version)

Then Jennifer rocks Hannah to sleep usually around 9pm. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but we are trying!!
